SHRM Talent Management Conference: The 3 Things We Took Away

Posted by Erin Borgerson on May 1, 2014

Hireology returned from the SHRM Talent Management conference late yesterday and we are still 15271926_srecovering from our whiskey hangover. This was the first year we exhibited at the Talent Management conference, but after several inspiring conversations, great sessions, and thousands of brilliant HR attendees, Hireology will be attending this conference for years to come.

We didn't just come home with a hangover and a country song stuck in our head (the show was in Nashville) we also took away some key points from the conference.

1. HR wants everything in one place

When it comes to managing talent, HR managers and directors use a variety of different tools, in a variety of different places, where they have a variety of different logins and passwords. One of the main things we heard from attendees was the need for all selection or hiring tools to be in the same place.

Whether it's background checks, onboarding docs, or their interview notes, it better be all in the same place in order for HR departments and their teams to take a second glance at it.

2. Attendees were interested in innovative ideas

Some attendees who walked by the booth requested more information about Hireology, because our competency-based solution is so innovative. There is a common misconception that HR departments are dated and uninterested in technology, but it was apparent that SHRM Talent Management conference attendees were clearly aware of the HR technology market and want the best solution to their hiring woes.

HR loves hands-on and many attendees were giving themselves demos of our platform at our booth. We heard several times how our solution was a "one-stop shop for hiring."

3. People Love a Smoking BeakerHireology_Beaker

Whenever Hireology exhibits, we bring an over-sized glass beaker filled with green bubbling liquid that makes gets the attention of all attendees. However, Hireology has never seen so many pictures and interaction with our display then at the SHRM Talent show.

The picture on the right shows Hireologist, Corey Fein adding "smoke" to the beaker which is done in a completely secret way. Smoke could be seen from across the expo hall!

Overall, the conference was a success for our team, and we want to give a special shout out to Rebecca Orens, the SHRM Senior Specialist for exhibits for making our conference experience extra special!

See you next year.
