Recruiting Olympic Talent: A customer story

While it’s a harsh and brutally cold winter in Chicago, there is something heating up quite fast. It’s almost time for that big event we have all been anticipating, and the excitement will definitely steam up the chilly city. The 2014 Winter Olympics are right around the corner, and your television screen is about to get a lot of attention!

So, what’s some recent gossip?

Well, how about the latest news with the one-and-only Shaun White? He withdrew from the slopestyle snowboarding competition and is solely focusing on the h

alfpipe. For all of us non-professional snowboarders and skateboarders out there, slopestyle is performing different types of difficult tricks and getting high amplitude off of jumps. The halfpipe is a ramp with a downward slope where competitors perform stunts while going from one side to the other.

White’s decision to drop out of slopestyle was due to its dangerous risk of injury, which is one he was not willing to take. Why? He is focusing on bringing Team USA home with the third straight gold medal in halfpipe. Now that is some dedication. I can’t wait to see this exciting, adrenaline-filled event and what talented tricks White has up his sleeve.

Speaking of talent, what a great transition to our next topic of conversation. Well, more so blogsation, but that’s not a real word. Recently, Homescout Realty also has been searching for and focusing on bringing new talent to the team. In 2014, we have implemented some company changes and are hiring new interns with Hireology's very helpful custom-made interview process.

How does this process work you may ask?

Easy as pie. After scheduling an interview, I am able to log into my Hireology account and follow a very simple, efficient process where I am provided with great questions to ask my candidate. After about thirty minutes (depending on how chatty I am feeling) I can gauge how compatible this individual is for the position, and I understand their career experience at a high level.

What are some examples of the questions?

One of my personal favorites is, “What has been your greatest accomplishment over the years?” I always like to hear these answers as I think it’s important to know what an individual considers success. I also love, “What would you say is the biggest misperception that people have of you?” You always get some interesting responses with that one.  

But, those are only two examples. The list goes on, and on, and on.  And if you have awkward silence phobia or are worried about what to say in between topics, then have no fear. Hireology even provides you with transitions in between questions. Smooth operator status.

So, what do we look for when handing over the gold medal (AKA offer)? Well, lucky for us, Hireology has a  scorecard at the end of the interview that actually does all of the brain work. The fields consist of:

  • Innovation & Creativity

  • Job Fit

  • Job Knowledge & Technical Application

  • Judgment & Decision Making

  • Organization & Planning

  • Self Improvement & Initiative

  • Supervision

After filling out responses for each category, the calculating begins. Ta-da! A score pops up on your computer screen.

I just used Hireology to hire my two most recent interns, Devin Law for graphic design and Dana Poracky for marketing, and I could not be happier. Using Hireology helped me make certain that they had the experience level we needed, and it helped me establish whether or not I thought they were good culture for Homescout. It also helped me keep track of the entire hiring process.
