Science Over Gut – Why a Proven Process Results in Better Hires

Posted by Erin Borgerson on December 17, 2014

If you’re a franchise owner, you’ve probably heard the term “hiring platform” mentioned around your office. While many franchisees are familiar with the term, they are unaware of the benefits a hiring platform can offer. What exactly is a hiring platform, you ask? In simple terms, it is a system used to find the right candidates for available jobs. Hiring platforms help organize resumes to manage workflows and assist with the interview process.

A recent poll conducted by Software Advice, found that out of the 100 recruiters they surveyed, 91 percent of them currently use some sort of recruiting technology. There are many benefits to using a hiring platform in the recruiting process. One major benefit to the system is resume management. The system makes it easier to sort through all of the resumes that come into the office. Think of it like this -last year, Starbucks received 7.6 million applications for over 65,000 job openings. Imagine all of the time and energy it would take to sort through each application. A hiring system will do that and much more for you.

Another benefit of using a hiring platform is cost reduction. We all know that hiring and training a new team member is an expensive process. According to HireSafe, the average cost to train a new employee ranges anywhere from $1,000 - $1,500. Most franchises are on a tight budget and can’t always afford the turnover rate that occasionally happens when hiring on a new member. Utilizing a hiring platform can save both time and money by reducing the time spent on hiring, improving communication and providing search and referral systems. Recent studies have shown that even though companies have to pay for the hiring system that the expenses seem to be worth it.

Here is an example of a company that utilized a franchise hiring system and saw great results.

The owner of 10 Aaron’s franchise locations, Todd Wilkins was struggling to find a way to lower their turnover and outdated hiring process. The hiring processes that were being implemented into the 10 locations were very time-consuming and unmanageable.

So what did they do to fix their problem?

Todd invested in the Hireology hiring platform. By utilizing the hiring system, Todd along with his district and general managers were able to use any device and log-on to the platform to oversee the hiring processes at all 10 locations. Todd also created a custom career site through Hireology, which began the process of building a qualified talent pool. This allowed the store managers to send the potential candidates to each other through the platform and create customized interview guides.

How did the hiring platform help their recruiting process?

By using the Hireology hiring system, Todd’s franchise company has managed to lower its turnover by 20 percent. They have a consistent and standard interviewing and hiring process across all locations. The quality of applicants has improved significantly and the store managers are spending less time organizing the candidate applications. “Hireology’s solution enables us to deploy a system-wide platform that adds instant value, without the large capital expenditure and training costs,” said Wilkins.
