How to Properly Publicize Your Franchise's Job Opening

Finding the most qualified candidate for your franchise’s opening can be a daunting task, luckily you’re not alone. The benefit of joining a franchise system is that the franchisor is there to offer you support every step of the way. When you find yourself with an open position waiting to be filled, you should contact your franchisor and find out what course of action they recommend. Aside from being able to post the position on the careers portion of your brands website, your franchisor can also provide you with specific language as well as platform recommendations to aide in your search.  

Once you’ve written a job posting that is in-line with your brand and gone through the best hiring practices from your franchisor, consider leveraging these additional channels.

Local Newspapers

Placing an ad in the classifieds section of a local newspaper is one of the most traditional and effective ways to find local candidates. The benefit of being in a franchise system is that your particular business already has brand recognition. Chances are a prospective candidate is already familiar with your franchise and that can help your posting stand out against all the others.

But what if there is a large selection of newspapers to choose from in your area? Well, do your research and pick a few places that similar brands or even competitors have advertised in.


Jobsites have been the go-to platform to list positions for all levels of hiring - they are popular, cheap and easy to navigate. The only downside, however, is that due to the sheer volume of posts, your posting might get lost in the shuffle or, worse yet, fall into the hands of applicants who are not particularly qualified.  To combat this, make sure to clearly convey what kind of candidate you’re looking for as well as what they can expect when applying.

If you’re finding that the careers portion of your brand’s website isn’t receiving nearly enough traction, then it may be time to enlist the help of a job listing site like Career Builder. But don’t be afraid to dig a little deeper and find out if there are any job sites specific to your area.

According to recruiter.com, the peak time to post a job opening is between 11 a.m.-1 p.m. earlier on in the week in order to reach the highest amount of people. Avoid later in the week or on weekends, as the highest amount of activity from job seekers is traditionally seen on Wednesdays.

Social Networking Sites

Depending on the target age of your prospective hire, social media may be the perfect place to post your job opening. Similar to posting an ad in the classifieds section of a newspaper, posting on social media allows you to target candidates based on their location. On top of that, social media sites such as LinkedIn allow you to filter your target audience by education level, experience and even current employer.

Ask for Referrals

Turn to your current employees and encourage them to become involved in the recruiting process as well. They can describe the job duties more in-depth than a job description and provide a first-hand account of the company culture from a more trustworthy source. Consider incentivizing the process by implementing an employee referral program where staff members receive cash and other bonuses if they refer a particularly successful candidate.
