6 Ways to Give the Gift of Hiring

The best gift this year isn't an iPad or a diamond ring, it's actually the gift of hiring. All corninessgift of hiring aside, the best gift a hiring manager can receive is a qualified and eager new hire.

If you really want to make your coworker's day, include one of these 6 hiring "gifts" in your White Elephant or Secret Santa and watch their face light up!

1. Offer to improve the career site

Up for taking pictures of the team? Help a hiring manager out by offering to improve your company's ever-so outdated career site.

You can add pictures, YouTube videos of your team, and other interactive features that make job applicants say, "wow I want to work there!"

2. Rewrite the job description

Some of the worst job descriptions come from HR or hiring managers (no offense!) If you took a creative writing class in college or enjoy organizing a description, offer to rewrite the job description.

A job description is basically a marketing piece that invites the candidate to apply. Good descriptions have bullet points and no fluff, keep that in mind as you help your coworker out.

3. Call the references

Everyone's least favorite job is calling the references. Offer to make some phone calls for your favorite hiring manager and watch their face light up! 

Before you begin to dial, ask the hiring manager to draft an interview guide to ensure you ask the right questions. Also schedule a full debrief meeting with the hiring manager to make sure you don't miss anything that they might find important.

4. Help promote the job

You will be a hiring manager's best friend if you help with promoting the job. You can post the job to Craigslist, add it to Indeed.com's free section, or tack fliers at the local Starbucks.

5. Social Recruiting!

This is the easiest gift of hiring. Simply update your status on Facebook, tweet the job, or sponsor the job on LinkedIn for your company and hiring manager.

You never know, your next executive assistant or sales associate could be a friend or family member!

6. Refer them to Hireology
