5 Ways to Liven Up Your Hiring Process

As the holidays approach, things start to slow down around the office. If you aren't working in retail or another industry that gets busy during the winter months, then you are probably dreading the days before and after major holidays where it seems like there is no one in the office but you!

If you are suffering from "Working the day after Thanksgiving," then you have plenty of time to get things done, as lets be honest, no one is really working that day. 

Here's 5 ways to liven up your hiring process when you have extra time on your hands:

1. Redo your job descriptions

This blog was inspired by a Tim Sackett article from a few years back. In the Top 5 Things to Do When You’re Stuck Working the Day After Thanksgiving, Sackett mentions that you should rewrite your job descriptions, which makes you look extremely busy and burns about 4 hours.

2. Create an interview guide

Got time to kill? Create an interview guide for all of your jobs. That way you can give your employees the guide and tell them to go interview someone. It gives you time to do more important things like budgeting or beating the current level of Candy Crush.

To craft a good interview guide you have to know what you are looking for in an employee. Then you have to study your most successful employees to see what characteristics they possess that makes them so successful. Check out this post for more information.

3. Start social recruiting

What's social recruiting? It's the process of finding candidates via social networks like: Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Google+. On the Friday after Thanksgiving, most people will be out of work and checking their social profiles so try and recruit your company's next superstars.

4. Research Personality Testing

Supposably the new "norm" of hiring, personality testing has come a long way since the ink blot tests. If you are a hiring manager, you should probably know what personality testing is. 

While top businesses used to focus on the knowledge, skills or abilities the candidate had acquired over the years, there seems to be a gradual shift towards hiring for personality, self-awareness, aptitude for learning, and culture fit.
