Halloween: A Perfect Recipe for Employee Engagement

In case you managed to miss the endless advertisements for costumes and the bags of candy taking over the aisles of the grocery store, Halloween is around the corner. While the thought of the doorbell ringing over and over is enough to drive many of us to hide from any doors or windows, Halloween doesn't only have to be for the kids.

Now this isn't to say that you need an excuse, as a matter of fact, employee engagement is something that should always be nurtured. But Halloween is a good way to bring everyone together and encourage collaboration. Plus, who doesn't love the opportunity to channel their childhood? 

Employee engagement events don't have to be costly, nor do they have to take up the entire day. Something as simple as a costume contest can do wonders for boosting morale. Here at Hireology we keep our Halloween engagements very simple. About a week ago, the leadership team sent an email informing everyone that the theme is "come as your coworker." Of course employees aren't required to dress up, but in our experience over the past few years, everyone has. I know it sounds a little goofy, but it's a great way to encourage team bonding - especially through all that shared laughter. After all, who doesn't want to see their CEO doing his/her best impression of an employee. 

So, what goes into a successful employee engagement gathering for Halloween? 

2 parts (all) employees

1 part each plan, schedule, preparation 

1/2-2 hours allocated time

5 dozen pumpkin chocolate chip muffins (optional, adds spice for Halloween)
