Election Results: Selection Management Takes the Lead

There are several candidates running a campaign right now and it's pretty certain therehireology selection is a clear winner. No, we're not talking about the Presidential Election between Barack Obama and Mitt Romney, we are talking about the HR Technology campaign and the businesses who are choosing between several different HR tech platforms to organize their hiring process.

The campaign issue? "Who should I hire?"

In an article from Treasury and Risk, Mary Schroeder quoted a Towers Watson survey that said  31% of executives plan to spend either more or much more on HR technology this year. This was followed by a recent article in an article from TLNT published last week, where Joey Price from Jumpstart: HR quoted, "HR Technology is making our lives as HR practitioners much more efficient."  

It is evident by the Towers Watson survey and the increasing number of companies that HR Tech is a growing industry, but when voters go to the polls and decide which HR tech platform they want to use based on who will answer their question, they should be completely educated on the choices. 

Here are the systems on the market that help organize hiring processes:

Applicant-Tracking-Systems (ATS)

This is a basic SaaS or software that helps companies collect and store candidate's and their resumes by tracking those who click on a link and apply for a position. Some ATS's may be integrated with job boards and verification services. Some ATS's may also recruit and verify candidates and give company's their own hosted career site, but many don't as well.

Resume Trackers

Almost exactly like an ATS, but resume trackers don't give companies a career site or integration with job boards and verification services. They only do as their name implies, and that is, track and store candidate's resumes. It's great for those who need organization, but it still doesn't answer the question "who should I hire?"

Selection Management

A selection manager takes the four existing categories of hiring-related HR Technology - applicant tracking, testing and assessment, verification, and onboarding - and combines them into one integrated platform to answer the "which person should I hire?" question.
