This is the second of a three part series about the 15th Annual HR Technology Conference taking place October 7th-10th at McCormick Place in Hireology's hometown of Chicago.
As exciting as it may be, we know that you aren't going to spend all your time at HR Tech. Rather than watch a mediocre pay-per-view movie back at your hotel, head out and explore the city after the conference closes each night.
Of course we don't expect you to wait until the conference begins to have fun, so don't worry - Hireology has you covered. On Sunday, October 7th we'll be hosting a kickoff party alongside the Illinois Technology Association and Dice.com at one of Chicago's hottest nightclubs, The Underground. It starts at 6:30 p.m., so make sure you stop by! Want more information? Of course you do! Here's the details.
The Second City has a lot to offer and planning an itinerary can be quite difficult since there is just so much to do. We don't want you to miss out on anything during your time in Chicago, so the Hireologists teamed up to bring you a list of our favorite things to do around the city.
Dedicating two and a half hours out of your busy day to chocolate sounds crazy, right? No way! Not only will you visit some of Chicago's best chocolate shops and cafes, you'll learn about the history of these unique shops and the city as a whole. Most importantly you'll get to sample the chocolate! The tours vary by day, so check the website to see which tour is the best for you.
John Belushi. Jim Belushi. Tina Fey. Bill Murray. Amy Poehler. Steven Colbert. Mike Myers. You can't say you've been to Chicago until you have been to the comedy club that launched the careers of so many favorite comedians. On a typical night at Second City there are a few different shows going on. Deciding which show to attend will be the hardest decision of the year; but no matter what show you attend, you'll burn off all the calories from the chocolate tour by laughing so hard. If you're lucky you may even see a Second City alumni seated alongside the audience.
Built in 1929, the Music Box Theater certainly has quite a rich history. Whether you're a movie buff or someone who enjoys going to the theater once every few years, the Music Box is a must-see during your trip to Chicago. As soon as you walk in the front door you are whisked back in time by an old-fashioned candy counter and elegant decor. Don't expect to see the latest Brad Pitt movie though; the Music Box only screens independent, foreign and classic films.
Chicagoans know what they like and aren't afraid to voice what they don't. That being said, it's quite an accomplishment for Tastebud Tours to be voted the number one food tour in Chicago. Throughout the tour you'll learn about the history and culture of the city while sampling local dishes from many different restaurants. There's quite a few tours offered, so it's easy to find one that will please your palette.
There are a select handful of "typical tourist" activities that simply cannot be passed up - and the Chicago Segway Tour makes that unofficial list. Not only do you get to have a blast riding around on a Segway, but you learn quite a bit about the city through the guided tour. These tours are offered during the day and night, so make sure to allocate some time to head over to the lake front and hop on a Segway.
Fall is the best time of year to visit Chicago; unfortunately, the weather isn't always predictable. If you're planning on spending time outside, be sure to bring a jacket or a heavy sweater (or both just to be safe). Most importantly, don't expect the forecast to be spot on. The weather report may say party cloudy with a 20% chance of rain...but in reality it's a 20% chance that it won't rain.
Tune in towards the end of the week for the final installment of Countdown to HR Tech!
