One of the first things you’ll want to do in any recruiting effort is to define the job that you’re trying to fill. Without an accurate job profile, you’re pretty much flying blind when it comes to picking the right person for the job. Fortunately, Hireology takes the pain out of this previously cumbersome process.
Creating a Job Profile using Hireology is easy and painless. In this post, we’ll walk you through our simple 4-step process.
Step 1: The Basics
First, make sure you’ve selected the Jobs tab, then click “Add a New Job.”
Next, you’ll start off by completing some basic information about your open job. Things like salary, location, and the name of the position, among other things. We’ve included some nice in-screen information to help you along, as well – just click one of the links to learn more or see examples.
It’s important to note that everything you enter on this page drives what gets inserted into your printable (PDF) Job Description. So, take your time and think it through.
Step 2: About the role
Now that you’ve nailed down the basics, it’s time to hang some detail on your job description.
You’ll start with talking about the job’s responsibilities (“supervise a support staff of 5″), as well as the qualifications that you’d like for an “ideal” candidate to have (“a BS/BA from a 4-year college or university”). Both the Job Responsibilities section and Qualifications sections populate the final Job Description PDF, which you’ll use to send to prospective candidates.
Our experience has shown that talking about your open job in terms of specific, measurable outcomes is the best way to understand exactly what it is that you want the person in this job to do. Here, you’ll ask yourself a question: “In one year from now, what specific, measurable things need to have happened in order for me to be happy with my new hire?” We’ve included some examples right there on the page to get you pointed in the right direction.
Step 3: The Job Analysis
This 3rd and final step is, in many ways, the most important step in our process. Here, we list a series of True-False questions that you’ll answer in order to tell Hireology more about the day-to-day work that your job will require. Then, based on your answers, Hireology creates a customized interview that’s tailored to your exact specifications. (Pretty cool, huh?)
As you work your way through this list, make sure you err on the side of “false” when you’re not sure whether or not they apply. The reason: answering “true” for a particular statement tells Hireology to include specific criteria in your customized interview guide and scorecard, so the more “true” statements you have, the longer your Elements interview (the final interview) will be. That said, if all of the statements apply, you should click “True” for each.
Voila! You’re done!
